What the bleep is Social Anxiety disorder?

Also referred to as social phobia, social anxiety disorder involves an excessive and unreasonable fear of social situations. Anxiety (intense nervousness) and self-consciousness arise from a fear of being closely watched, judged, and criticized by others. That is social anxiety disorder in a nut shell. It's apparently the most common anxiety disorder and one of the most common mental disorders in general, and it sucks. This disorder manifests itself different in the people who suffer from it. There are no set signs and symptoms that every person with this disorder will experience, but there are common themes. Fear of social situations in general, especially when you feel like you'll be the center of attention or closely watched and/or judged. If the person is an authority figure, people who suffer from this disorder will often become even more anxious. The Mayo clinic has a great section on social anxiety disorder...literally as I read it, I kept thinking.."that is SOOO me". Check it out if you feel inclined to do so. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/social-anxiety-disorder/DS00595
